Q. How or why did you start this business?

A. I started by biz as a hobby because I loved making jewelry. I thought that other people might like my designs as well and I thought I could make a little extra money. When I was pregnant with my son, I knew I wanted to stay home with him. I figured that with a little bit of work I could turn my hobby biz into a real biz. I have thoroughly enjoyed staying home with my son. The jewelry business helps with income as well as allows me a creative outlet.

Q. How is the business in 2002?

A. Well, 2002 started really slow. I was very worried. However, March and April have been wonderful months! I have two huge craft shows coming up so I'm hoping to do well at the shows as well as on the internet.

Q. What advice can you give other WAHMs that are just starting out?

A. Enjoy yourself! You are choosing to stay at home with your babies or kids. Don't pick a biz that you hate that makes you grumpy and awful to be around. It defeats the whole purpose. Find something that you enjoy and works around your families schedule. It is such a blessing to stay at home! Don't give up. I claimed a huge loss last year (my first year as a real biz) however 2002 is looking up! You can do it. Just map out a plan of where you want to go and how you want to get there. A supportive family does wonders as well. When they realize that you are doing this to help the family it's amazing how they can pitch in and help. Enjoy and blessings in your new endeavor!
